Posture Assessment Sydney CBD: Understand What Is Driving Your Symptoms

A PRACTICAL ASSESSMENT OF POSTURE, MOVEMENT AND LOAD

A posture assessment should do more than label you as “out of alignment”. At Body Clinic Sydney, we assess the positions, movement habits, strength, mobility and work demands that may be contributing to tension, discomfort or inefficient movement—then give you a practical plan to change what is modifiable.

Posture is not one perfect position

Bodies vary, and many postural differences are normal. Pain is rarely explained by one photograph or one isolated alignment measurement. Symptoms are more often influenced by a combination of sustained positions, lack of movement variation, tension, strength, previous injury, sleep, stress and individual sensitivity.

That does not mean posture is irrelevant. It means the assessment must connect what we observe with your symptoms and the activities you need to tolerate. We focus on findings that can guide a useful decision rather than trying to force every person into the same template.

Who may benefit from a posture and movement assessment?

  • Professionals with recurring neck, shoulder or back tension during desk work.

  • People who feel stiff, compressed or fatigued after prolonged sitting or standing.

  • Clients concerned about rounded shoulders, forward head position or asymmetry.

  • People whose pain returns despite repeated massage or temporary treatment.

  • Gym clients who struggle to find comfortable positions for pressing, squatting or pulling.

  • Anyone who wants a specific strength and movement plan rather than generic posture cues.

What we assess

  • Your symptom history, daily positions, movement patterns, training and previous injuries.

  • Standing and seated posture.

  • Spinal, shoulder, hip and relevant joint movement.

  • Muscle and fascia imbalances.

  • Strength, endurance and control in movements that reproduce your symptoms.

  • Breathing pattern where it is relevant to ribcage movement, bracing or symptom behaviour.

  • Movement variation, exercise technique and work habits that may be increasing load.

What you leave with

You receive a clear explanation of the findings and a focused plan. Depending on your needs, this may include two or three priority exercises, movement pattern correction, strategies for varying position through the day, modification of aggravating gym movements and a progression plan for strength or mobility. The plan is practical and designed around creating real tissue change.

Posture, pain and appearance

Some people seek an assessment because of pain, some want to feel more comfortable in their bodies, others look more upright or change the shape of their body. These goals can overlap, but they are not identical. We separate symptom management from appearance goals and tailor the plan accordingly.

Consultation fee

The posture and movement assessment is 60 minutes and costs $300. You will leave with tailored exercises to implement that will have you making immediate progress toward your goal.

Frequently asked questions

Can poor posture cause pain?

Posture can influence the load on certain tissues and this can certainly cause tissue overload and pain. A useful assessment considers position alongside movement, strength, workload, recovery, previous injury and other contributors.

Will you tell me to sit up straight all day?

No. Holding one rigid position all day is neither realistic nor necessary. We usually focus on comfortable setup, regular movement variation and building the capacity to tolerate the positions your work requires.

Can posture be improved with exercise?

Yes, strength and movement training will help provide the stimulus to create the changes needed to improve bony alignment and muscle balance. They will also improve tissue tolerance to load.

Is this the same as physiotherapy?

There is overlap. A posture assessment is best when the main goal is understanding position, movement and recurring tension. If pain is severe, follows trauma, includes neurological symptoms or requires diagnosis and treatment, book physiotherapy.

What should I bring?

Bring any relevant scan reports, a list of symptoms and wear clothing that allows comfortable movement assessment.
