WHAT IS CELLULITE?

Cellulite is a dimpled appearance of the skin most found on the thighs, buttocks, and abdomen.

HOW DOES CELLULITE FORM?

Fibrous bands of connective tissue run through the fat layer under the skin, connecting the dermis (the skin layer just beneath the epidermis) to the underlying fascia (a layer of connective tissue covering muscles). In women, these bands are arranged perpendicularly to the skin surface, creating vertical chambers.

Over time, the fibrous bands can become thickened, hardened, and lose their elasticity. This weakening and stiffening of the bands reduces their ability to hold the skin taut against the underlying structures.

As the fibrous bands weaken, the fat cells within the vertical chambers can protrude into the dermis. This fat protrusion pushes up against the skin while the bands pull the skin down, creating the characteristic dimpling and "orange peel" appearance of cellulite.

With aging, the dermis itself can become thinner and less elastic due to decreased collagen production. This thinning further accentuates the appearance of fat protrusions and the depressions created by the taut fibrous bands.

Changes in the local blood flow also causes fluid leakage between fat and the surrounding fibrous bands, leading to hypoxia (lack of oxygen) and intercellular swelling.

This then promotes fibrogenesis, increasing the number and thickness of the fibrous bands running between the fat.

The lack of blood flow also reduces the fat breakdown mechanisms as key hormones cannot cause the fat cells to release their contents.

This eventually leads to inflammation of the fat cells

HOW TO BUILD A BOOTY?

Developing a glute shape that is lifted, firm and popping is a science. Multiple factors can lead to poor buttock shape, including:

  • Poor muscle activation

  • Muscle tightness

  • Poor posture

  • Weak abdominals particularly post-partum

We address these issues and set you up with a comprehensive exercise plan to lift, tighten and sculpt your glutes.  â€‹
